A yeast food allergy can develop, especially if you suffer from an overgrowth or candida, with symptoms such as digestive problems, bloating, sugar cravings, alcohol cravings, fatigue, depression, moodiness and obvious symptoms such as cystitis and thrush.
Avoiding Yeast
Yeast can be found in many foods and you should beware of pure yeasts, yeast extract (Marmite), vinegar containing foods, all alcohol, ginger beer, stock cubes, antibiotics and vitamin B supplements.
Yeast can be hidden on food labels under the name of hydrolysed protein, hydrolysed vegetable protein and leavening. If you have a yeast food allergy then you may also be intolerant to fungi-containing foods such as cheese, mushrooms, peanuts and malt.
Alternatives to Yeast
It is difficult to replace yeast with another substance but you can try soda bread, sourdough bread, chapatis, yeast-free rye bread, rye cripsbread and yeast-free bouillon mix.
